"After my father died, he would come to the house, sit there, watch television, and have dinner, and he did that for months," Rob recalled in the documentary. "And he told us, the family, he said, 'Let me know when you’re gonna sell the house'."

The late director joked that they should instead "stage" the house with the comedian included, and said, "It’ll up the value. You get Mel Brooks sitting here." Brooks revealed he kept up the tradition because there was "love" and "comfort" in Carl's house.
"Even after he was gone, I felt that in the walls and the furniture. It was a place of happiness," said the comedian to People.
Rob also commented on the depth of Brooks and his father's friendship, speculating Brooks saw Carl as a father figure despite only being a few years apart in age.
