How was your weekend, Chicago?
Cold, snowy weather mixed with a surprisingly lively—and happy—Chicago Bulls weekend. It’s kind of wild to think that the Bulls still hold the longest active winning streak in the East, are sitting above .500, and we just watched Derrick Rose get his jersey retired. There haven’t been many stretches like this lately as a Bulls fan, so we’ll take it, and hope to keep it rolling tonight.
Let’s talk Bulls basketball.
© Matt Krohn-Imagn Images The King is coming to Chicago tonight, as the Los Angeles Lakers visit the Chicago Bulls. The last time these two teams faced off, we got the Josh Giddey half-court game-winner, still one of the best plays in our history, in my book. That is still considered longest game-winner tracked in franchise history. I’m hoping this matchup can live up to that moment and maybe even duplicate the result. Considering Chicago is coming off a game-winner, Kevin Huerter’s corner three against the Boston Celtics, another dramatic finish could very well be in the cards. Moments like that are what make this team so entertaining. Seeing Ben Gordon, the former Sixth Man of the Year, watch the play in real time and look completely in the moment, pumped, excited, reacting like a real fan, only added to it. It made me even happier that the win over the Celtics was nationally televised, with former players in attendance. Those moments hit different when the past and present collide like that.Ben Gordon reacts to the Kev game winner ❤️ pic.twitter.com/6wZb2oEfJ6
— SleeperBulls (@SleeperChicago) January 25, 2026 This team loves dragging games into the clutch. They’re not exactly the dominant closers they were in the ’90s. The Bulls have played the third-most clutch games in the league this season. And they’re the Cardiac Bulls for a reason, Chicago has already hit a league-high four game-winners. Stressful? Absolutely. Entertaining? Unfortunately… yes.Per @NBA the Bulls are now leading the league in game winnersThis season the Bulls have hit game winners againstBoston (1/26)Utah (1/14)Portland (11/19)Philadelphia (11/4)Crazy 2 month span for the Bulls pic.twitter.com/CqNSqhNFL2
— Just Another Year Chicago: Bulls (@JAYChi_Bulls) January 25, 2026 The Los Angeles Lakers come into Chicago with a 27–17 record—the fifth-best mark in the NBA. On paper, that makes the Chicago Bulls the clear underdog. But in reality? Not so much. The Bulls have actually been good against good teams. They own the seventh-best record in the league against opponents above .500, sitting at 12–11. Which really just reinforces one thing: What a weird, weird team we support.Want to hear something wild? The Bulls have the 7th best record in the NBA against above .500 teams. They are also 22nd against below .500 teams.
— Doug Thonus (@Doug_Thonus) January 25, 2026 Around the association, one of the funniest things imaginable has just happened. On December 27, the Los Angeles Clippers sat at 6–21—one of the worst records in the NBA. The next night, they were set to face their in-town rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, and Dave McMenamin reported that Clippers head coach Ty Lue believed his team would “finish the season 35–20 or better. Considering where they were at the time, it was an objectively absurd thing to say. So absurd, in fact, that a Clippers fan named Robert Flom openly mocked the statement. After a back-and-forth with another fan, he fired off the now-infamous tweet:“If they [the Clippers] go 15–3 in any stretch this season, I will print and eat this tweet.”
If they go 15-3 in any stretch this season will print and eat this tweet
— Robert Flom (@RichHomieFlom) December 21, 2025 Since that tweet was sent, the Clippers have played exactly 18 games. They went 15–3. On the nose. Their third loss came earlier this week at the hands of our Chicago Bulls, and win number 15 came last night. Everyone in the building knew what was at stake. Fans showed up to the Intuit Dome holding printed banners of the tweet, and chants of “Eat the Tweet” echoed throughout the game. The moment became so unavoidable that the game itself was dubbed the “Paper Bowl.” Clippers social media, credentialed media, and just about everyone online leaned fully into it. It dominated postgame coverage and even made its way into the postgame pressers with Kawhi Leonard, Ty Lue, and basically the entire Clippers operation.Kawhi Leonard: “He better try to see if he can eat something else. I don’t know how healthy that is.” t.co/PJPZ0qFD2i pic.twitter.com/G2WeYWNtRA
— Joey Linn (@joeylinn_) January 26, 2026 LA’s recent run has pushed them into play-in territory, with momentum that could carry them even higher. And in the process, it forced a fan, troll or not, to literally eat his words. Honestly, watching all this unfold, I couldn’t help but think: with the Bulls, you could print out half the things the front office has said over the years and make them eat it too—eventually putting them on a strictly paper-based diet.MORE BULLS FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
