Zach Top may have just delivered one of the top national anthem performances in years — that is, according to several folks on social media, who couldn’t help but applaud the traditional leaning country singer for his impressive take on a tune that’s inarguably one of the most difficult songs to sing.
The 28-year-old country star returned to his home state of Washington, where he performed the beloved “Star-Spangled Banner” a cappella, not only in front of his home team, but before thousands of football fans, who were in attendance for the NFC Championship game between the Seattle Seahawks and the visiting Los Angeles Rams.
Standing centerfield inside Seattle’s Lumen Field, Top belted out the classic song right before kick-off, wearing Seattle Seahawks colors to show which team he represented. It didn’t seem to matter who he was rooting for as his smooth vocals and earnest delivery stopped people in their tracks, with many folks jumping on platforms like X to share their excitement over the powerful rendition.
“NFL get Zach Top singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl asap! That was the best anthem I’ve heard since Chris Stapleton,” one person wrote via X.
Another user captioned, “So many people just googled who Zach Top is, and that’s an amazing thing,” while someone else wrote, “Can I make a petition to have Zach Top do the national anthem for every major football game?”
This Isn’t the First Time Zach Top Has Performed the National Anthem
Although the national anthem is not an easy song to sing, Top has had previous experience performing it in front of a large audience. In 2023, he performed the signature classic as part of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. But to be able to perform the “Star-Spangled Banner” close to home was bittersweet for the singer/songwriter who grew up on a ranch in Sunnyside, Wash.
