Ethan Hodson has announced his verbal commitment to swim for American University, located in Washington D.C., starting in the fall of 2026. He confirmed the news in an email to SwimSwam, writing:

The Florida native is a senior at Olympia High School in Orlando, where he has been a member of his school’s swimming and diving team all four years. In addition to competing for the Titans, Hodson currently trains year-round with LAKR Swim, primarily specializing in breaststroke and IM.
Hodson is a two-time individual qualifier for the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) 4A State meet, setting his best times in the 100 breast (57.94) and 200 IM (1:55.46) as a junior in November 2024. He finished 17th in the 100 breast with a 58.98 this past fall to close out his high school career.
His best time in the 200 breast was set at the Florida Senior Championships last March, where he finished 20th in the 50 breast (27.08), 32nd in the 100 breast (58.71), 33rd in the 200 breast (2:08.56), as well as 63rd in the 200 IM (1:57.82) and 68th in the 50 fly (24.73). He broke 2:10 in the 200 breast for the third time and cracked 2:09 for the first time, improving on a pair of 2:09 swims from the RAFC Winter Classic in December 2024.
Over three years at the Florida Senior Championships, Hodson has never finished lower than 46th in a breaststroke event, placing as high as 20th in the 50 breast in 2024.

To earn a second swim at the meet, it took times of 58.01/2:07.43 in the 100/200 breast and 1:53.00 in the 200 IM, meaning Hodson is already in scoring range in the 100 breast..
On the team itself, Hodson would have ranked first in the 200 breast and 200 IM, as well as fifth in the 100 breast. Four of the five ahead of him in the 100 breast have since graduated; he’ll overlap a year with Kyler Alcebar, who owns bests of 57.48, and have three years with current freshman Van Paul (57.89/2:09.67,) who should serve as strong training partners as he transitions to collegiate swimming.
Hodson joins sprint freestyler Sam Cave as the only publicized recruits in the Eagles’ class of 2030.
