The Green Bay Packers are hiring former Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon as their new defensive coordinator, Arizona Sports’ Tyler Drake confirms.
Gannon met with Green Bay on Thursday and Friday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, and NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was the first to report the hiring on Sunday.
The position was left vacant after Jeff Hafley, who was a candidate for Arizona’s top opening, took the Miami Dolphins’ head coaching job on Monday.
Gannon also had interest from the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders for their defensive coordinator openings, and he interviewed for the Tennessee Titans’ head coaching position before Robert Saleh landed the position.
Gannon was fired from his post as Arizona’s head coach a day after the regular season ended. He finished his Cardinals tenure with a 15-36 record and zero playoff appearances following a 3-14 season.
Green Bay marks a return to the defensive coordinator ranks for Gannon. Before his Arizona stint, the former head coach served as the Philadelphia Eagles’ DC from 2021-22.

That downturn only poured into this past season. Despite winning their first two games, the Cardinals failed to put much good on the paper, winning just one more game on their way to a 3-14 mark.
