Rick Springfield is reconnecting with a piece of rock history that helped define his career.
The singer-songwriter shared on Instagram he's finally reunited with his beloved Les Paul guitar, the instrument that served as his main axe on his 1981 breakthrough album Working Class Dog. The guitar is officially back home and "off the road," where it's "been for years."
"The magnificent six!" Springfield captioned a photo of his guitar collection. "Finally got my Les Paul (second from the left) back off the road. It’s been there for years. It was my main guitar for the Working Class Dog record and I’m real happy to have it home."
The guitar is one of his most challenging to play simply due to the weight of it. But the '80s rocker insists it’s worth it.
"It weighs as much as an anvil and gives you a hell of a backache," he joked, "but it sounds like a monster."
For fans, Working Class Dog marked a turning point in Springfield’s career, launching him into superstardom with hits like "Jessie’s Girl" and cementing his place in rock history. The return of the Les Paul feels symbolic and potentially prophetic!
Springfield teased that the guitar will play a role in what’s coming next.
"There will definitely be guitars on this next record… and lots of them," he added, hinting at new music currently in the works.
"Lots of guitars on the record?" one fan quipped in the comments. "You've restored my faith in humanity, Rick."
"A new record, and with lots of guitars—just say when!" said another ecstatic fan who "can’t wait!" to hear what's next from Springfield.
He also added a playful aside about another instrument in the photo; a baritone guitar that actually belongs to famed session guitarist Tim Pierce.
"Guitars are like borrowing records," Springfield quipped. "You borrow them and never give them back. Tim, if you read this, I’m kidding."
Fans can hear those guitars live: Springfield is slated to hit the road again in 2026, continuing a touring career that’s remained remarkably consistent over the decades. He recently added three new dates to his schedule:
March 27: Horseshoe Casino in Bossier City, LAApril 30: Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Catoosa, OKMay 1: Oaklawn Hot Springs in Hot Springs, ARFor now, Springfield hasn’t said much else about the upcoming album. But this post suggests he’s deep in creative mode!
