The most luxurious Florida stay we have done as a family was at The Breakers in Palm Beach, and there are about a hundred reasons for that.
From the moment you drive down the palm-tree flanked entrance, you're met with a grandeur that transports you back to the 1920's. Under hand-painted, gold-leaf ceilings finished by Florentine artists and lit by Venetian chandeliers, the lobby still feels welcoming rather than pretentious or formal, so families can relax and let kids be kids.
Not only do we love it, it's also a Travel + Leisure–approved pick for families. In T+L’s roundup of the best family resorts in Florida, Palm Beach writer Terry Ward calls it “no more worthy splurge” for a luxe family beach vacation.

What's great about a stay here, is that no day has to look the same. During our visit, we started one morning with an indulgent brunch at the Seafood Bar, followed by mani-pedis with my daughter, and then an afternoon lounging by the pool. Another day, we explored Palm Beach, and then came back to check our daughter into the kid's beach club so we could walk along the beach and then sip a cocktail at the HMF. The resort is built for that rhythm, with plenty on-site so you can either spend the whole day at the resort, or come back to relax after a full day out.
Jacqueline Cittone Magid of Inviato Travel calls it her favorite resort and says it is her clients’ favorite too, noting, “Everything you could want is at this five-star resort,” and pointing to the hotel’s “high repeat clientele” as proof families come back once they find it.
Why travel advisors keep booking it for families
The Breakers Hotel
When I ask the travel experts why they love sending families here, the answer is simple: It's luxury that actually thinks of families first. Fora travel advisorAmanda Gittens puts it clearly: “The Breakers is one of the strongest family-friendly luxury resorts in Florida, without ever feeling like a traditional ‘kids resort.’” Another Fora advisor, Amy Horrocks, notes she has “extensive experience both staying here and booking clients,” which tracks with how often The Breakers shows up on luxury family shortlists.
The kid amenities that actually matter
The Breakers Hotel
This is where The Breakers earns its reputation (that hasn't faltered since it opened in 1926). The resort’s Beach Club, which has a Family Entertainment Center, which layers in what families of kids of all ages need after beach and pool time, including an arcade, basketball court, nine-hole mini golf and a playground.
Travel + Leisure’s hotel review also calls out a bunch of kid programming, from one-on-one lessons and art classes to laser tag, plus a video game lounge and classic arcade games that work especially well for tweens and teens.

Even with all its history, The Breakers keeps updating to stay relevant in the ever-expanding tourist mecca of West Palm Beach. The resort recently unveiled brand-new tennis and racquet facilities after a full-scale $12 million renovation completed in December 2024, adding more reasons to book beyond the beach. On the dining front, the resort’s Beach Club added dinner service that is slated to launch in early 2026, which will offer even more healthy options for quick bites.
Getting there is easy, and flights keep improving
One reason advisors like pairing The Breakers with a long weekend is how straightforward it is to get there. PBI (Palm Beach International Airport) maintains a running list of nonstop service from many major US cities, and there have been recent adds like Breeze’s new service to PBI from Richmond, which started in September 2025, plus additional low-cost carrier route announcements that make quick family trips more realistic (and budget-friendly).

When we did venture outside the resort, Palm Beach impressed us majorly with the incredibly landscaped main square and easy to navigate attractions. We did a Worth Avenue wander, popping into the shops for a quick browse (which led to a few meltdowns because my daughter wanted the most expensive toys) and an al fresco snack, then took an easy bike ride on the Lake Trail, which runs about 5.5 miles along the lagoon with nonstop waterfront and epic mansion views.

For a culture break, the Flagler Museum is a great one-hour outing in Henry Flagler’s former Whitehall estate, and when we were in the mood for something more modern, we crossed over to West Palm for the Norton Museum of Art (which even entertained our then 5-year-old). If golf is more your thing, it is worth adding a night at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, home to the Champion Course and its famous “Bear Trap” stretch. If The Breakers is booked, the most similar polished stays in the same pocket include Eau Palm Beach and The Brazilian Court.
