For weeks, E.J. (Dan Feuerriegel) has been secretly conducting an experiment inside a hidden laboratory located within the Dr. Tom Horton Free Clinic on Days of Our Lives. Now, the results of that research are beginning to come to light.
In the show’s weekly promo released on the official Days of Our Lives YouTube channel, viewers see Dr. Rolf (Richard Wharton) and Gwen (Emily O’Brien) inside the laboratory. During the scene Gwen announces, “We brought the rats back to life.” The squeaks of revived rodents can be heard in the background.
The story traces back to early 2025, when Salem University Hospital was facing bankruptcy. Around the same time, Dr. Jeffery Russell (Michael Dietz) was developing a groundbreaking drug called Versavix, designed to specifically treat life-threatening sepsis. Although the drug was initially lost, it was ultimately recovered by John Black (Drake Hogeystyn) in order to save Bo Brady (Peter Reckell)’s life, at the cost of his own.
As the story unfolded, it was revealed that E.J, purchased the hospital, and was behind the creation of the Dr. Tom Horton Free Clinic, positioning it as an extension of the hospital. While the clinic helped keep the hospital operational, it also served another purpose, housing a secret laboratory tied to the Versavix research, with Gwen helping to fund the operation.
It was later revealed that Dr. Rolf had been recruited by E.J. to work in the lab, with Dr. Mark Greene (Jonah Robinson) assisting in the research. Meanwhile, viewers learned that E.J. had been keeping a large tube-like container hidden within the facility, one he has occasionally been speaking to.
It a recent episode, following his escape from being kidnapped by his adopted half-brother Peter Blake (Dan Gauthier) and after watching his nephew Theo Carver (Tyler Joseph Andrews) being injured, E.J. returned to the lap and apologized to the mysterious figure inside the tube for what had happened.
