NCM issues rain and thunderstorm alert across multiple regions
JEDDAH — The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) on Saturday warned of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by active winds and thunderstorms affecting several governorates and centers in the Makkah region, including Jeddah, Khulais, Al-Kamil, Rabigh, Adham and Bahrah. The center said the weather conditions may lead to reduced visibility, hail, flash flooding and high sea waves in coastal areas, noting that the alert remains in effect until 8 p.m. In a separate statement, the center warned of moderate to heavy thunderstorms causing flash floods, accompanied by hail and dust-raising winds, over parts of Madinah, Qassim, Hail, Tabuk, Al-Jouf, the Northern Borders and the Eastern Province, as well as northern areas of the Riyadh region. An earlier report by the center indicated that surface winds over the Red Sea will be southwesterly to northwesterly over the northern and central parts, and southeasterly to southwesterly over the southern part, at speeds of 20 to 40 kph, reaching up to 50 kph with the formation of thunderclouds. Wave heights are expected to range from one to two meters, rising to two and a half meters in areas affected by thunderstorms, with sea conditions varying from light to moderate and becoming rough in parts of the northern and central Red Sea.
