BCCI confirmed to scrap A+ from central contracts, Bumrah likely to continue getting 7 Cr annually

A big change is set to come in the next few days, when the BCCI comes up with the list of new central contracts. As per a report in Sportstar, the A+ category is all set to go, which has only happened, due to Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma playing only in ODIs now, Devajit Saikia revealed.

No A+ in central contracts after Virat & Rohit retirement

“The plan will go ahead very soon. We are removing one category because the players who were eligible for the A-plus category are now playing just one of the three formats. The criteria we have set to qualify a player for A-plus are not being fulfilled.” The A+ category players drew a yearly salary of INR 7 crore, while the A category got 5 crore, followed by 3 crore in B and 1 crore in C.

In the last season, apart from Rohit & Virat, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja were also part of the A+, but it seems they will be demoted as well. “Some of the players who were in that A-plus bracket have decided not to play in all three formats. Therefore, there are not enough players remaining to qualify and fulfil the eligibility criteria,” Saikia added.

Bumrah to likely get 7 Cr

“A one-format player will not be eligible for A-plus, so that’s why we had to take a call. There is no heartburn.” That said, it seems that the BCCI will not have a pay cut for Jasprit Bumrah, who surely plays all the formats, but depends on workload management, as to what matches he plays.

However, it is understood that there will be no pay cut for Bumrah, who remains the leader of the pace attack despite missing games at times due to workload management.
