BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills are conducting an open search for their next head coach, with General Manager Brandon Beane, owner Terry Pegula, and reports indicating quarterback Josh Allen involved in the interview process.
“It is a 100 percent open search,” Beane said on Wednesday’s season-ending press conference.
The Bills have already completed initial interviews with candidates Joe Brady, Brian Daboll, and former Bengals and Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.
“I know this is a desirable job. Our phones are ringing and we’re going to begin that process,” Pegula said.
On Friday, the Bills reportedly spoke with former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel. Although McDaniel has accepted a position as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator, he could return to the AFC East if the Bills offer him the head coach position.
“We’re opening every door. We got to find the right guy for this team to help get us over the hump,” Beane said.
The team is considering a wide range of candidates, including Philip Rivers, who returned to the NFL this year but has only coached at the high school level.
“Old, young, former coach, first-time coach,” Beane said.
The Bills are also looking at younger candidates, such as Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski, who is set to interview with the team this Sunday at 30 years old.
The search extends further, with reports indicating that Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver and former Bills interim head coach Anthony Lynn have been requested for interviews.
“I’m looking forward to having a successful coaching search,” Pegula said.
The Bills are currently unable to interview candidates who are still coaching, such as Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and Broncos pass game coordinator Davis Webb.
