PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Pittsford Mendon Vikings are off to a strong start this season with a 10-1 record, thanks in part to the work ethic of senior Joshua Shadders.
“I try to make myself an example, going 100% every play in practice and in the game,” Shadders said. “I can allow these guys to look up to me to try and do the same things, because that’ll ultimately help us win more games and be more successful as a team.”
Shadders emphasized the importance of toughness and courage on the court – traits that set him apart from his competition.
“I’m definitely a bigger framed kid and that helps, but just giving max effort every play helps me to bring these rebounds down, get it upcourt, and help the team make better plays,” Shadders said.
Standing just above six feet tall, Shadders has been able to secure an average of seven rebounds per game. He credits his athletic brothers for teaching him valuable skills.

Shadders aims to lead his basketball teammates by example, drawing from lessons learned at home.
“Looking up to my brothers, I learned how to take care of people, and I can do the same thing for my brothers here on the court,” Shadders said.
