After five years, Snail Mail is back with a new project.
Born Lindsey Jordan, Snail Mail announced on Tuesday on Instagram that her third studio album, Ricochet, will be out on March 27 via Matador Records. The 26-year-old indie artist also released their lead single, "Dead End," and dates for an upcoming world tour around the United States and London.
In addition, the music video for "Dead End" is out now on YouTube and was co-directed alongside Elsie Richter. The album art was designed by Jordan's girlfriend, Etta Friedman.
The last time Jordan released an album was her 2021 project, Valentine. Prior to that, her first studio record was Lush in 2018.
View this post on InstagramAccording to an interview with Rolling Stone, Jordan wrote the album while moving from New York City to North Carolina, recording the album in both places with producer Aron Kobayashi Ritch. The music video for "Dead End" was also filmed in North Carolina, where Jordan and her team pulled an all-nighter to film.
"I’ve never done this before, but I wrote all of the instrumentals and vocal melodies on the piano or guitar, and then I filled in the lyrics all at once over a year," she admitted to the publication.
In multiple interviews, the "Pristine" singer revealed that her inspirations and musical influences include Hayley Williams from Paramore, Avril Lavigne, Fiona Apple, Bon Iver and more.
