Real Housewives of New York alum Bethenny Frankel revealed she has been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.
"I have a medical announcement. Not because I want you to worry, but because I want you to take precautions in your own life," Frankel, 55, began in a video shared via Instagram on Thursday, January 22. "Be mindful. Because months ago, I decided that I was going to be very proactive about blood tests, bone density—all the things I had heard people talking about."
She continued, "I started to take a series of blood tests and each time, my kidney function was coming up low."
View this post on InstagramDespite trying to skip out on her appointment with the kidney specialist, Frankel was encouraged to attend by her team due to her abnormal kidney results.
"When I went, he said to me, 'You have stage 2 chronic kidney disease,'" she revealed.
While the exact cause is unknown, the Skinny Girl founder explained that it could be related to a near-fatal allergic reaction she experienced a few years ago that "could have done damage to the kidney."
Other possible causes include an autoimmune disease or a urinary issue.
"I don't drink a lot of water, you guys know that. I always have a hydration packet. I'm always holding a bottle, but I'm not usually drinking it," Frankel said, before adding that the doctor told her, "Water is your medicine."
