Grace Carrington will head north to compete for Washington State University beginning in the fall of 2026. She confirmed the commitment on SwimCloud, writing:
I am so incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Washington State University! I want to say thank you to my coaches, friends, and family. I would not be here without you all. GO COUGS!!!
Carrington is currently a senior at Coronado High School in Henderson, Nevada, where she has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming and diving team since her junior year. She spent her first two years of high school at State College Area High School in State College, Pennsylvania. In addition to competing for the Cougars, she swims year-round with Boulder City Henderson Heatwave, primarily specializing in breaststroke and sprint freestyle.
Carrington currently boasts best times of 1:03.74 and 2:18.49 in the breaststroke events, as well as 23.55 and 51.13 in the 50 and 100 free. Her 100 breast and 100 free were set a little over a year ago in December 2024, while her 50 free was set last May and the 200 breast last month.
She most recently competed at last month’s Oregon Senior Open, where she swept the breaststroke events with times of 29.77, 1:04.02, and her personal-best 2:18.49 in the 200. She also won some off events in the form of the 50 fly (25.89) and 200 back (2:07.21), with the former a career best and the latter a season best, and placed third in the 100 free (53.90). A year earlier at the same meet, she swept the sprint freestyles and was runner-up in the 100 breast, recording her personal bests in those 100s, so the meet has treated her well since her move to the Silver State.
On the high school scene, Carrington is the reigning Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) 3A state champion in the 50 free and 100 breast, as well as in the 200 and 400 free relays. She’ll surely be hoping to defend all four titles in a few months’ time when she caps off her high school career in May.
Prior to her move to Henderson, Carrington finished seventh in the 50 free and tenth in the 100 free at the 2024 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) 3A state meet. She also helped the 200 free relay take bronze and the 400 free relay finish tenth after being a relay-only swimmer as a freshman.
Beyond short course swimming, Carrington qualified and competed at the Futures meet in Sacramento last summer. There, she clocked a lifetime best 35.61 to take 60th in the 50m breast, as well as a season-best 1:00.66 for 64th in the 100m free, 28.28 for 72nd in the 50m free, 33.14 for a season-best finish in the 50m back, a personal-best 2:49.92 for 75th in the 200m breast, and 1:19.10 for 87th in the 100m breast.

50 Freestyle: 23.55 100 Freestyle: 51.13 100 Breaststroke: 1:03.74 200 Breaststroke: 2:18.49A Division I program, Washington State competes in the Mountain West Conference with the likes of San Diego State and UNLV. The Cougars placed fifth out of ten teams at the 2025 Mountain West Conference Championships before sending three athletes on to compete at the NCAA Division I Championship. The team scored 14 points at NCAAs courtesy of Emily Lundgren, a current senior who placed sixth in the 200 breast and 16th in the 100 breast.
Based on the results from last season’s Mountain West Conference Championships, Carrington is already poised to land in the ‘C’ final in the 100 breast and 200 breast, setting her up to score some points right from the start. Additionally, her sprint free times are within striking distance of the 23.37 and 50.80 needed to earn a second swim in 2025. With about eight months until she arrives in Pullman, Carrington has room to make even more improvements to her top times and her collegiate scoring chances.
On the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, she would have ranked fourth in the 200 breast, fifth in the 100 breast and 100 free, and seventh in the 50 free, positioning her to contribute immediately in dual meets, with potential to become a relay staple. She’ll join a sprint-heavy recruiting class designed to rebuild the Cougars’ depth in those events, creating a competitive training environment that should elevate the team’s relays.
The full list of recruits set to join Carrington includes fellow breaststroker Lauren Sexton (1:03.78/2:14.53), freestylers Audrey Hill (23.53/50.88), Ivy Ladrow (23.80/51.00), Marlee Winser (Canadian), and Ffion Humphreys (British), as well as London Hughes (fly/distance free).
