Day 4 of the Chicago Bears offseason. It took all of four days for me to think “the intro part of this should be in bold-face type.” OK, we can dig into Bullets now that we’ve got that out of my system.
ICYMI: Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson is up for the AP Coach of the Year award. The loaded field of finalists includes Mike Macdonald (Seahawks), Mike Vrabel (Patriots), Kyle Shanahan (49ers), and Liam Coen (Jaguars). If I had to power rank them based solely on this year’s performance, I’d go as follows: Macdonald, Shanahan, Johnson, Vrabel, Coen. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not taking anything away from what the Bears head coach did. But what Macdonald has done in Seattle is mind-blowing. Shanahan’s coaching job through injuries is impressive as heck. That guy won games with Mac Jones this year, for crying out loud. Johnson and Vrabel had similar impacts in terms of changing culture and building winners in Year 1 with their respective teams, but Johnson did it in what I thought was a harder division. Coen shouldn’t be dismissed in this, as he has come a long way from being meme’d into oblivion after his introductory press conference in Jacksonville. Eagles coach Nick Sirianni speaks with Ben Johnson after the game at Lincoln Financial Field. Mandatory Credit: Eric Hartline-Imagn Images Something to look forward to in 2026: Ben Johnson will go head to head with Coen, Vrabel, and Macdonald next year. He will also see first-year head coaches when the team faces the Bills, Dolphins, and Falcons. Oh, yeah. You better believe I’m already highlighting storylines to circle back to when the upcoming football season kicks off later in 2026. Caleb Williams was sick with it last year. The NFL’s Christmas Day games set a streaming record, which is something to keep in mind for when the league does its schedule release day in the spring. A bold prediction for 2026: The Bears will have games on multiple streaming platforms next season. After seeing the numbers this team did on Amazon Prime for Black Friday and Wild Card Saturday, I imagine Prime Video and Netflix will want a piece of Chicago’s football team next season. This is loser energy:"When they took Jordan [Love] out the game… Cause everybody in the world knows it was a dirty hit."Packers WR Romeo Doubs on the moment that took the Bears-Packers rivalry to the next level ?@RomeoDoubs | @heykayadams pic.twitter.com/jI1pf6KSjs
— Up & Adams (@UpAndAdamsShow) January 21, 2026 That this is sitll a point of conversation, weeks laer, is a head-scratcher to me. The Packers had an opportunity to get their pound of flesh against the Bears — and they lost. It’s giving 2015-16 St. Louis Cardinals, which isn’t a great look. But, hey, whatever gets the rivalry going again. It was dormant for far too long. Bryan DeArdo (CBS Sports) has a list of legendary NFL coaches who probably would have gotten canned had they been coaching today. Teams are not as patient as they once were (for better or worse). In a tweet on Wednesday, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero mentioned that Travis Kelce referenced the return of Eric Bieniemy to the Chiefs and expressed his excitement. And when I saw that tweet, I muttered under my breath: “Yeah, and Travis also said The Life of A Showgirl was going to be full of bangers — and we all know how that turned out.” Don’t get it twisted. I’m happy that Bieniemy is getting a second chance with the Chiefs. My reaction was more of a response relaying my disappointment in Taylor Swift’s most recent album. Also: Go figure that Matt Nagy’s shortcomings as a coach are once again negatively impacting the Bears. If Nagy had been doing a suitable job as K.C.’s OC, then Bieniemy wouldn’t have left for that gig. Oh, well. Life goes on.MORE BEARS FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
