New ‘Masters of the Universe’ Trailer Has ’80s Fans Losing Their Minds

Eighties babies all across the world perked up earlier today when Amazon MGM Studios released the first trailer for their upcoming Masters of the Universe film.

Based on the classic ‘80s Mattel franchise, the movie focuses on Adam, a seemingly average young man working in HR. However, unbeknownst to him, he’s Prince Adam, who has been separated from his home planet, Eternia, and he’s destined to become He-Man, a powerful warrior.

Nicholas Galitzine stars as Prince Adam and He-Man, and this marks his first time leading a major studio franchise. Jared Leto appears as Skeletor, the skull-faced villain seeking control of Eternia and its power. Fans of the toys will also notice several other of their favorite characters make an appearance, including Man-at-Arms played by Idris Elba, Teela played by Camila Mendes, He-Man’s trusty sidekick Battle Cat, and Alison Brie as Evil Lyn.

Fans were thrilled with the new trailer and the comments section on YouTube was buzzing with excitement.

“This looks epic!!! So glad they got Skeletor spot on. Also a glimpse of Beastman and Trapjaw!!!” one person wrote.

Another added, “I have been waiting almost 40 years for another He Man movie and it is finally happening. Looks great and Skeleton looks amazing. Also I hope that was Beastman jumping off the car in that clip.”

A third person added, “This is so amazing! I almost want to cry! I wish my dad was alive to see this. He used to take me to the movies and he used to buy me the toys when I was a kid.”

Galitzine, 31, previously spoke about how he had to prepare for Masters of the Universe while filming the fantasy romance 100 Nights of Hero.

"It's the hardest thing I've ever done; it was a daily challenge," the Red, White & Royal Blue actor told People in December. "But there is something incredibly empowering about committing to something so heavily. I've never had a challenge like that before, which really every single day you have to wake up and you can see the peak of the mountain vaguely, but especially when you're bulking. I think it would be insincere for me to say that it was easy."

Masters of the Universe premieres in theaters on June 5.
