Emma Young, a junior at Haymarket High School in Haymarket, Virginia, has verbally committed to swim and study at the University of Alabama beginning in 2027-28.

Young swims year-round with Nation’s Capital Swim Club. She is a Summer Nationals qualifier in the 100 back and 200 back, and displays versatility in breast, IM, and free, as well. As a sophomore at the 2025 VHSL Class 6 State Championship, she won the 50 free (23.62) and was 6th in the 100 breast (1:05.92). She also swam breast (29.69) on the winning 200 medley relay and anchored the runner-up 200 free relay (23.14).
A month later, she picked up a number of personal bests at the NCSA Spring Championship. There, she placed 16th in the 50 free (23.67), 12th in the 100 back (PB of 54.53), 12th in the 200 back (PB of 1:57.97 in prelims), 15th in the 200 IM (2:04.24), and 13th in the 14 IM (PB of 4:22.40). She also clocked lifetime bests in the 50 free (23.41) and 100 free (50.72) leading off the NCAP 200/400 freestyle relays.
At the Katie Ledecky Invitational in December, Young updated her times in the 50 free (23.30), 200 back (1:56.97), 100 breast (1:03.20), and 200 IM (2:02.50). She placed 3rd in the 50 free, 7th in the 100 back, 3rd in the 200 back, 5th in the 100 breast, 2nd in the 200 IM, and 9th in the 400 IM.
Young had a strong showing in long course last summer, culminating in PBs in the 50 back (29.98, 5th place), 100 back (1:02.98, 9th place), 200 back (2:15.56, 11th place), and 100 breast (1:15.50). More recently, she finaled in all 3 backstroke events at the U.S. Open in December, and lowered her 200 time to 2:14.84.
