What a great guest we had for this week’s show. Dr. H. Kenneth Fisher is a nationally renowned expert on Sleep and he focused on sleep, dreams, and creativity.

A few years back I stumbled upon a story about the technique the artist Salvador Dali used to capture the benefits, at the beginning of sleep, of the liminal mind, when the woke mind is drifting into a new and imaginative world.

Dali would sit in his chair and hold spoons in one or both of his hands. As he nodded off and his hands relaxed the spoons dropped and made enough of a clatter that he was awakened and, having spent some moments in his subconscious mind, he was able to bring that extra creative perspective to his work.

There are some reports Thomas Edison did the same, using ball bearings.

Researchers at the Paris Brain Institute replicated this phenomenon, using a math problem that had a hidden pattern to its solution. 83% of the research participants who used an early sleep interruption technique were able to solve the problem. Only 30% of those who stayed awake were able to solve it.

Ken’s book, ‘Sleep, a user’s guide’, is the top selling book on the topic at Amazon.com.

“Exploring Your Creative Genius” takes an expansive view on what it means to be creative and entrepreneurial in an ongoing conversation led by Carl Nordgren — entrepreneur, novelist, and lifelong student with decades of experience growing his own creative capacity and assisting others to do the same in exciting new ways!
