Singer Meghan Trainor and her husband, Daryl Sabara, welcomed their third child via surrogate on Jan. 18, sharing the announcement in an emotional Instagram post.
"Our baby girl Mikey Moon Trainor has finally made it to the world thanks to our incredible, superwoman surrogate," she wrote. "We are forever grateful to all the doctors, nurses, teams who made this dream possible."
The All About That Bass singer, who carried her first two children, Riley, 4, and Barry, 2, also told People that using a surrogate wasn't something they decided on lightly.
"It wasn’t our first choice, but we had endless conversations with our doctors on this journey, and this was the safest way for us to be able to continue growing our family," Trainor explained. "We are forever grateful for that option."
"I want people to know that surrogacy is just another beautiful way to build a family. It’s not something to whisper about or judge. It’s rooted in trust, science, love, and teamwork," she continued. "Every family’s journey looks different, and all of them are extremely valid."
Previously, Trainor has been honest about the mental health struggles she experienced after both her children were born.
"After my first pregnancy, my therapist is the one who diagnosed me with post-traumatic stress disorder," she wrote in an essay for TODAY.com. "It was months after the birth and I was having nightmares that I was still on the surgical table and I could feel the doctor's hands inside of me."
After having her second child, Barry, a couple of years later, Trainor had a difficult post-partum journey. She recalled struggling with breastfeeding, panic attacks, and exhaustion.
"I felt like I was dying," she confessed. "I felt if I stood up, I would pass out. I didn’t feel safe holding the baby and at the same time I felt like my body was giving up on me."
Trainor asked for help, and her doctor prescribed medication to help her get on the road to feeling better. While she knew she could immediately get the help she needed, she recognized that's not always the case.
"But I know a lot of other moms don't have that support, or don't feel like they do, so I can't imagine how that night turns out for them," she added. "It's frightening and sad."
