Orleans County DMV to close temporarily due to technology upgrade in February

ORLEANS COUNTY, N.Y. — Orleans County Department of Motor Vehicles will temporarily close all of its services starting on Feb. 13 and reopening on Feb. 18 due to technology renovations to modernize systems. No transactions can be made during that window.

This stems from the larger statewide project to renovate state DMV systems. The renovation next month will be the state’s initial phase of a multi-year project, aiming to bring in new online systems.

“February tends to be a slower time of year for DMV offices across the state so this is the best time to implement the system, but we understand this can still be an inconvenience for residents,” said Nadine Hanlon, Orleans County Clerk.

The renovation will move about 30 million records to the new system.

Both phone and online systems will be shut down at 2 p.m. on Feb. 13, expecting to reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 18.
