Gwyneth Paltrow might have worked on 1991's star-studded Steven Spielberg film Hook, but it would be a few years more before she finally managed to meet the movie's star Robin Williams in person.
While appearing on a recent episode of Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast, the 53-year-old actress recalled her brief appearance in the fantasy epic Hook. In the context of the film, which acts as a sequel to the classic fairy tale Peter Pan, Paltrow was cast as a younger version of Wendy Darling, the adventurous heroine from the original story.
As exciting as it might have been appearing in such a prominent film, Paltrow never got the chance to directly interact with Williams on set, with Paltrow appearing opposite a younger actor portraying the teenage Peter and Williams acting opposite Maggie Smith's aged Wendy.
Years after their appearance in Hook, however, Paltrow revealed that she eventually met Williams thanks to a convenient introduction from then-boyfriend Ben Affleck, who of course worked directly with Williams in 1997's breakout hit, Good Will Hunting.
"I only got to know [Williams] a bit when Good Will Hunting came out," Paltrow told Poehler on the podcast. "Because I was dating one of the people who wrote that movie and was in that movie, so I got to know him then."
In Good Will Hunting, Williams famously played the down-to-earth psychiatrist Sean Maguire, who forms an unlikely friendship with Matt Damon's troubled genius, Will. For his performance, Williams won a myriad of prestigious acting awards, including the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Like many fans of the film, Paltrow continues to maintain a similarly complimentary view of Williams' performance in the film, leading the Marvel actress to gush, "Oh, he’s so good [in Good Will Hunting]. I love that movie. It's a perfect movie. I love it so much."
