Hayley Erbert and Derek Hough welcomed their first child in December 2025, just two years after Erbert suffered a cranial hematoma. In an interview with People magazine that was published on Wednesday, Jan. 21, Erbert shared a health update.
"Honestly, I’m always looking out. If I get a headache, I instantly have some, like, PTSD where I’m like, 'Is this going to go away?' Because it all started with just a headache. But there’s really nothing that I have to be aware of or be on the lookout for. It’s just living life, Erbert, 31, told the outlet.
Meanwhile, Hough, 40, also weighed in, recalling some of those emotional moments following Erbert's emergency surgery.
"One of the first things Hayley said when she came to after her surgery — missing half of her skull, face swollen — was not, 'Am I going to be able to dance again?' It was, 'Am I able to have children in the future?' The doctor was like, 'Yes, of course.' And here we are," Hough said.
In summer 20205, Erbert and Hough announced that they were expecting a baby. At the time, Erbert was 20 weeks along.
"I didn’t have a whole lot of symptoms in the beginning, I was feeling so good, so I got really scared that something happened," Erbert told People. "It really freaked us out. When we were on our adventures, we tried to live life to the fullest because we knew it’d be the last year of just the two of us. But when we’d get home, we’d do a scan just to make sure everything was still okay."
The couple announced the arrival of Everley Capri Hough about a week after she was born.
"Every step of our lives has led us to you. Our hearts have been cracked wide open and our world is forever changed," Hough captioned a joint Instagram post on January 5.
