ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The video game retailer GameStop is set to close nearly 500 of its stores across the country, including several locations in the Rochester area.
GameStop hasn’t released an official list of which stores are closing, but the retailer’s website lists at least 471 locations as closed with no reopening date listed. That includes the locations at Eastridge Plaza on East Ridge Road, Commerce Drive in Victor, and Webster on Ridge Road.
It also includes three locations in the Buffalo area: the stores at University Plaza on Main Street, Depew on Transit Road, and Lockport on Transit Road.
In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission last year, GameStop said it would close “a significant number of additional stores” during the fiscal year that ends on Jan. 31. GameStop closed 590 stores in the U.S. during the previous fiscal year.
