The Denver Broncos are bringing back a familiar face to the practice squad as insurance in light of the injuries to Pat Bryant and Troy Franklin.
Denver Broncos bring back WR Brandon Johnson to practice squad
Brandon Johnson is back with the Denver Broncos after spending the last two years with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Johnson, who has previous familiarity with Sean Payton’s offense, is back on the practice squad as an insurance policy after injuries to Troy Franklin and Pat Bryant against the Buffalo Bills left the Broncos receiver depth thin.
Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims, and Lil’Jordan Humphrey were the only receivers available after the injuries, and their workload increased drastically. Coming into Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots, Johnson’s signing to the practice squad gives them some flexibility.
In 2023, Johnson caught four touchdown passes during the regular season and showcased himself as a consistent role player.
The Broncos are set to practice for the first time since their overtime win against the Bills on Sunday on Wednesday afternoon, and all eyes will be on Franklin and Bryant and their potential participation level or lackthereof.
In a corresponding move to make way for Johnson to return to the practice squad, the Broncos waived practice squad center Michael Dieter.
One thing to keep an eye on in the WR department for the Broncos this week in the event Bryant and Franklin miss due to injury, is another elevation of practice squad receiver Elijah Moore, but this time, him being active potentially.
Jarrett Stidham has operated the Broncos’ scout team all season long, and one of the wide receivers he’s thrown to throughout the weeks has been Moore, Michael Bandy, and A.T. Perry.
Denver will be on the practice field on Wednesday, and we’ll see how the week progresses roster-wise.
