San Diego Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of a man and woman suspected in the double-homicide Sunday of another couple in Grant Hill.
Police said in a statement that the two couples knew each other, and the suspects fled after the shooting early Sunday morning in the 100 block of 27th Street.
The two suspects were detained by the Border Patrol at the San Ysidro Port of Entry as they attempted to re-enter the United States later Sunday morning. Identified as Princess Perez and Ramses “Rex” Morales, both 25, the two were booked into jail on two counts of murder each.
Police said the two victims were dating, and had been in a dispute with the suspects, one of whom was the former girlfriend of the male victim.
The victims, Ruben Chavez, 31, and Evelyn Virgen, 28, were found lying on 27th Street with bullet wounds. Officers administered CPR, but neither survived.
Virgen’s three young children were found unharmed in a car nearby. The three were taken into protective custody.
