Beloved Disneyland Restaurant Temporarily Closes for Six Weeks

Disneyland's Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is shifting directions as the park introduces design, characters, and more from the original Star Wars trilogy. For one fan-favorite restaurant in this area, this means that it will go through a little makeover during a temporary closure.

On Jan. 20, Oga's Cantina officially closed for what will be around six weeks for a scheduled refurbishment. It is expected to reopen in early March, but an official reopening date has not been announced.

Disney recently announced that Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland will have a timeline shift, with the theme park's setting expanding to include other important Star Wars eras.

As a result, Oga's Cantina needs to be reworked to include details from earlier in the Star Wars timeline, rather than the short period of time that the area was previously set in.

Part of the location's backstory might have to be reworked as well, although there are no plans to change anything about Oga or DJ R-3X, the two key characters connected to the restaurant.

Along with other aesthetic changes throughout this section of the park, there will also be a few major additions, as iconic characters like Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, and Han Solo will appear at the park for character experiences with guests.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will also have music playing in the park, while there previously was just ambient noise to further the immersion. These main changes are scheduled to arrive on April 29, although guests can likely expect to see other changes before then.

As of writing, Disney has not shared any comment on whether or not the same changes will be incorporated at Walt Disney World's Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in Hollywood Studios, but it wouldn't be surprising if they did.

One of the main attractions of the area, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, is also getting a major makeover, although not for the same reason.

The popular ride will have a new The Mandalorian & Grogu-themed mission. It will debut at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World on May 22, the same day the movie The Mandalorian & Grogu premieres in theaters.

Star Wars fans are sure to be excited about all the thrilling additions to Galaxy's Edge that they can check out on a future visit.
