Charlie Sheen may have been infamous for his drinking, cocaine, and partying, and though he's had several arrests, none of them were related to drunk driving. "To this day, I've never had a DUI," the 60-year-old actor told his dad, Martin Sheen, in a special episode of The Martin Sheen Podcast on Jan. 18. "And people think that's insane when I tell them that. You know, a guy who consumed an ocean of booze. Never had a DUI."

The former Two and a Half Men star was discussing the types of things he gives his kids advice about, and "don't drink and drive" was a big one. "I tell them, I just made a decision early on," he said, adding that it's easier for them now than it was for him. "I didn't have access to all the ride sharing and Lyft and Uber and everything else that anybody has today, that [my kids] have."
Martin admitted that Sheen has always been good about understanding consequences, even as a kid. "One of the things that I admired most about you was that when you got caught, you never denied it. It was catching you that was the problem," the West Wing star shared. "But once you got caught with your hand in the cookie jar, you never denied it, and you took your lumps. I love that about you."
Sheen opened up about his distaste for people who drink and drive during a chat about his memoir, The Book of Sheen, in October 2025. "It's such a peeve of mine to see people get their third and their fourth and their fifth [DUI], and it's like, why are they still driving?" he said, suggesting there should be more intense punishments for operating under the influence. "I'm just saying, how many ride services are there? There's so many options to get home responsibly, there's literally no excuse for that."

He also explained that he was able to get home safely in his partying days by taking the "one taxi cab in Malibu" and scheduling limo service. "I took limos before they were cool, stayed in them long after they were cool, and I made a conscious decision that I was never gonna mix the cups with the wheel, and just honored that," he explained.
Sheen has been sober now since 2017. He quit drinking cold turkey after disappointing one of his daughters, Sami, by being unable to drive her to an appointment, according toPeople.

He says he maintains his sobriety by keeping "really awful situations on a mobile spinning around my head," he told the outlet. "Anytime I'm thinking, 'That'd be a great idea,' there's an example that I can go to and just remember that it wouldn't be a good idea — just the shame, the distress, and the chaos."
