The Lemonheads' frontman Evan Dando believes Kurt Cobain died not knowing the "truth" about his relationship with Courtney Love.
In an interview with NME, Dando addressed commentary he made in his 2025 autobiography Rumors of My Demise. He claimed Love told Cobain she and The Lemonheads singer had an affair to make him jealous.
The Lemonheads toured with Hole in 1993. “She was treating me like her boyfriend, and she was on me the whole time, where it looked like we were doing something," he told the outlet.
However, The Lemonheads frontman says he and Love never had an affair. However, he believes that Cobain never knew the real truth when he took his own life in April 1994.

“My first spiritual experience was when Kurt died, because I felt that he knew the truth, because he went to his death not knowing. [Nirvana’s] Pat Smear told me Kurt really thought I was having an affair with Courtney," he explained.
"I felt that Kurt knew the truth a lot after he died. ‘Cause me and him had this weird barrier," Dando continued.
"We were doppelgängers in a way. People who worked with us both said they couldn’t even tell who was onstage. We listened to a lot of the same music and even his singing – I think that early on, he heard our early stuff. There’s something about his voice.”
He concluded, "We could have been friends, and it’s a bummer. And I think we are friends now ‘cause he knows the truth."
PEOPLE Magazine published an excerpt about the alleged relationship from Dando's book in October 2025. He wrote of Love's allegation, "I thought it was a terrible thing to say to Kurt. How could we ever be friends if in the back of his mind he was always wondering if I’d slept with his wife?"
Dando and Love have remained friendly. She joined The Lemonheads on stage in London in 2022 for their "It’s A Shame About Ray" 30th Anniversary Tour.
The band, which had hits with "It's a Shame About Ray," a cover of the Simon and Garfunkel hit "Mrs. Robinson," and "Into Your Arms," continues to tour. Dates are scheduled throughout 2026.
