Robert Redford’s daughter Amy Redfordhas shared a glimpse of what life was like with her late father as the family prepares for the first Sundance Film Festival without him.
Amy, the youngest child of Robert and his ex-wife, Van Wagenen, stopped by Today, where she provided insight into who he was as a father. She also opened up about the Hollywood legend's Sundance Film Festival legacy.

Speaking with Today’sLaura Jarrett and Peter Alexander, Amy admitted that Robert was very playful, kind, and courteous. The Hollywood legend taught his children to follow their passion, while also finding ways to help change the world.
There are many things Robert did that left an impact on his children, including his daughter, Shauna, and his late sonJames. Robert was also a father to son Scott, who died of SIDS at just two months old.
Amy, though, feels there was one thing he did for them that was simply the best. “The best thing I think he did for my family was raise us between New York City and the mountains of Sundance, because we got to live between the city and in natural law, and taught us a very strong value of stewardship. So, you know, that’s something that I think all of us bring to the table to this day,” she expressed.

On Thursday, January 22, the Sundance Film Festival kicks off for the first time without its anchor and legendary founder. Robert started the yearly festival back in 1978.
Amy reflected on how Robert was told not to start the iconic festival, which only made him more determined to do so.
“I think his legacy is really about giving forward. It’s like a community that comes home every single year,” Amy shared.
The film Festival will celebrate Robert this year; however, Amy also made it clear that the movies and the filmmakers are truly what keep her father’s legacy alive.
Redford died last September at the age of 89.
