The way Season 2 of Landman ended made it look like Billy Bob Thornton's time as Tommy Norris might be over. Then an AI-generated report took that possibility and ran with it, a move that has not amused the iconic actor.
Spoilers from the episode ahead!
In the Jan. 11 episode that served as the penultimate Season 2 climax, Thornton's character was relieved of his position as president of M-Tex Oil. His boss, Cami Miller (Demi Moore), who owns the fictional oil company, did the deed after butting heads with Norris over how to run it.
While it seems plausible that could be the end of Thornton's time on the show, don't bet on it. Instead, it looks like his character is ready to face off against Miller after starting his own competing company. If that's the plan, get ready for more of Thornton, not less.
In the Season 2 finale, that's precisely what Norris does as he announces his own company, CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle, and we can already see how tense things will be between Norris and Miller in Season 3 as they battle over business, now as competitors rather than collaborators.
In response to claims that he won't be returning for Season 3 of the Paramount+ hit, Thornton simply told USA Todaythat the report is "AI-generated crap."
He also hit back against other rumors that have circulated since starring in the Taylor Sheridan-created series.
"There's an AI report that Demi and I are a couple now, and there's one that I'm leaving the show," Thornton explained before adding, "They have nothing to do with reality."
While that was enough explanation for the reports he was leaving Landman, Thornton went even further, assuring fans that when Season 3 rolls around, "I'll be there."

'Landman' Star Opens Up About Working With Sam Elliott
In Season 2, the Landman cast became even more star-studded when Sam Elliott signed on to play Tommy Norris' father, TL, and it's something Thornton has thoroughly enjoyed.
"It's been great working with Sam. And I love doing the show," Thornton said. "I'll be here as long as it plays out. If it's five years, great. If it's six, I'm there."
Don't be surprised if this storyline runs that long either, as Elliott's Season 2 introduction set him up for a lengthy multi-season arc alongside Norris, anchoring the show’s future in a generational power struggle rather than a single corporate feud.
In the Season 2 finale, Norris asked his father to help lead the new company, as the rugged character has plenty of experience in the oil business and can help Norris navigate as he starts making the decisions, rather than managing risk for someone else's business.
Filming for Season 3 of Landman is expected to begin in April or May 2026, following Paramount+'s December 2025 announcement of the show's renewal.
