Ohio State v. Michigan
January 17, 2026 McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, Columbus, OH SCY (25 yards) Results Final Scores Women: Michigan 162, Ohio State 136 Men: Ohio State 167, Michigan 133The Buckeyes played host to Big Ten rival Michigan on Saturday, with each school securing a win: the Wolverine women won 162-136, while the Ohio State men prevented the sweep, winning 167-133. One of the day’s highlights came in the 1000 free, where Buckeye sophomore Mila Nikanorov notched a new program record in her winning effort.
Women’s Recap
Michigan’s ‘A’ 200 medley relay of Bella Sims (23.72), Letitia Sim (26.81), Brady Kendall (22.19), and Leila Fack (21.84) opened the meet in a winning time of 1:34.56.
Sims led the 200 free for the Wolverines from start to finish, touching over a half-second ahead of the field in 1:42.65. Sims would earn her second win of the day in the 200 back, clocking 1:53.53, a more than two-second margin of victory in the event. She rounded out a productive day with her third event win, touching the fastest in the 200 IM in 1:55.98.
Junior Lexi Greenhawt powered to the win in the 100 backstroke for the Wolverines, clocking the only time under 52.70 in 51.86.
Michigan junior Hannah Bellard was untouchable in the 200 fly, touching nearly four seconds faster than the field in 1:52.85.
Kendall touched first in the 50 free ahead of three Buckeyes who finished 2-3-4; her final time stopped the clock in 21.62. Kendall kept the momentum high, with a win in the 100 fly, touching in 51.40, over a second faster than Carrie Furbee (52.63) of Ohio State.
Senior Lena Hentschel led the Buckeyes to a 1-2-3-4-5 finish in the 1-meter, scoring 325.88. She also led another top-five sweep in the 3-meter diving event in 368.78.
Sim earned a hard-fought win in the 200 breaststroke, holding off Ohio State’s Maria Najji Ramos (2:18.43) in a winning time of 2:03.18.
The Wolverines 400 free relay team of Greenhawt (47.90), Kendall (47.99), Fack (48.34), and Stephanie Balduccini (47.98) closed out a winning day in a winning effort of 3:12.21.
Nikanorov brought the first win of the day for the Buckeye women, swimming the first ever sub 9:30 1000 freestyle in program history. Her final time of 9:22.37 demolished the record she set in 2024 of 9:30.49. She later doubled up in the 500 free, swimming a season-best time of 4:36.97.
Sophomore Maria Ramos Najji earned the 100 breaststroke win for the Buckeye women, charging out of the gates in 27.44, and holding on for the victory in 58.39.
Ohio State’s Rachel Bockrath charged to a win in the 100 free, outpacing Greenhawt (48.12) in 47.85.
Men’s Recap
Ohio State senior Tomas Navikonis just outtouched Eitan Ben-Shitrit (1:34.29) of Michigan by seven hundredths of a second in 1:34.29.
Sophomore Cornelius Jahn fired off a major back half in the 100 back, to overtake Michigan’s Jack Wilkening (46.22) by just over two tenths in 45.99, the fastest the Buckeye has been this season. Jahn completed the backstroke sweep with a comfortable win in the 200 back, finishing more than two seconds faster than his teammate Joseph Roth (1:43.62) in 1:41.54.
Buckeye sophomore Matthew Klinge soared to a season-best 50 free time in 18.86, half a second faster than the field. Klinge also nabbed the 100 fly win in 45.02, over a second faster than the field.
Ohio State’s Tyler Read took the win in the 1-meter diving event in 378.75, and later led the 3-meter diving score in 374.40; his teammate Ernest Braitenbach was just behind in 368.03 on 3-meter.
Eidam held off a charging Wolverine in Antoine Sauve to claim the 100 free title by six hundredths of a second in 43.10.
Tristan Jankovics clocked a season best to win the 200 breast for the Buckeyes in 1:54.24, just over half a second better than Luka Mladenovic in 1:54.76. Jankovics touched more than a second faster than the event field in the 200 IM, winning in 1:43.67 for his second win of the day.
Ohio State’s 400 free relay quartet of Tomas Navikonis (43.40), Klinge (42.31), Ahmed Ismail (42.62), and Jahn (42.51) put the finishing touches on a men’s team victory in 2:50.84.
Similar to their women’s team, the Wolverine men also nabbed an early win in the 200 medley relay with the quartet of Jack Wilkening, Luka Mladenovic, Tyler Ray, and Ole Eidam touching just under a quarter of a second ahead of Ohio State’s ‘A’ relay (1:23.93) in 1:23.70.
Michigan sophomore Lorne Wigginton led the way in the 1000 free, touching in a new lifetime best of 8:54.01 on his way to the event win; he and Ohio State senior Mason Edmund (8:58.98) were the lone times under 9:00. Wigginton completed the distance sweep with a more than three-second win in the 500 free, clocking 4:16.35.
Michigan’s Mladenovic and Jaeddan Gamilla led the 1-2 finish for the Wolverines in the 100 breast, with Mladenovic touching first in 52.02 with Gamilla following in 52.83.
Junior Colin Geer also found success, this time in the 200 fly, clocking the fastest time in the event by nearly two seconds in 1:43.85.
