ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A 19-year-old man is accused of shooting two people on Portland Avenue near Pomeroy Street a week ago.
Rochester Police say the man and woman, both 19, were shot while trying to buy marijuana on the afternoon of Jan. 12. Officers say the suspect got out of his car and fired at multiple people. The two gunshot victims managed to flee and drive to Rochester General Hospital.
Detectives identified the suspected shooter as Jacob Rivera. He was arrested on Friday during a traffic stop on West Broad Street. Police say they found a loaded handgun with an extended magazine in Rivera’s jacket pocket.
Rivera is charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment. He was taken to the Monroe County Jail. Rivera is also facing weapons charges over an incident on Oct. 7. Police say they found Rivera with a handgun during an investigation into him having been shot.
The two victims are expected to survive. The woman was shot in the upper body and the man was shot in the lower body.
