ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The $500,000 New York State Community World Cup Grant Program is meant to support locally-led viewing events tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, aiming to boost excitement for the games throughout the state.
The grant program aims to increase economic activity through community-based celebrations, such as local businesses, by encouraging people to attend sporting events, while sharing the enjoyment of the games.
Local towns, nonprofit organizations, tourism entities, and other eligible partners can apply to hold the viewing events.
“This new program helps bring the spirit of the tournament beyond the stadium and into towns and cities across the state, giving New Yorkers everywhere a chance to come together and celebrate,” said Governor Hochul.
The Empire State Development, the state’s official economic development agency, will support the local viewing events throughout the state, including Western New York.
Applications to host the events are due on February 13 by 4 p.m. on the New York State website, here.
