One of the most beloved actors from The Brady Bunch has been cast on the new season of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Outta Here! Australia. Barry Williams will be on the new season, filming alongside model Rachel Hunter and Aussie actor Gary Sweet.
Williams, 71, is no stranger to reality television competition shows, given his time on The Masked Singer in 2022 and on Dancing With the Stars in 2023, though things will look very different as the actor is trading the ballroom for the jungle.
"When I told Maureen [McCormick] I was doing it she said ‘good luck!’ I thought, ‘oh no, what have I done?’” Williams told New Idea in an interview published on Sunday, Jan. 18. McCormick also competed on the show, finishing in fourth place back in 2015. "But then she explained she’d had a great experience and encouraged me to jump in," Williams added.
Shortly after Williams' casting was announced, some fans took to Reddit to react.
"Season 1 contestant Rachel Hunter is also on the show! Think Barry will do really well!!" one person wrote.
"The people’s champion," someone else said.
"OMG, he is adorable," a third comment read.
Williams will be in great company on the show, with the latest Dancing With the Stars champ, Robert Irwin, serving as host (alongside Julia Morris).
"I've conquered a lot of things that I’ve wanted to do. I’ve been on television, I’ve made records and movies. I’ve produced and written. I’ve been on Broadway. So this presents a challenge unlike anything I’ve ever taken on,” Williams told Woman’s Day. "And I’m really grateful, to tell you the truth, to have the challenge."
Williams acknowledged that he will have to do some "uncomfortable" things and said that he got a proper razzing from his kids, who asked if he had his will in order.
"I’m not fond of swimming with alligators. I don’t like the idea of being in a coffin or having snakes crawl across my face. But I am prepared to experience those things,” he said, adding, "I’ll do my best to make friends with the snakes and deal with the spiders and eat things that aren’t normally on the menu. I believe with this type of thing you can’t tiptoe into it. I think you jump in, and I’m going jump in with both feet."
The show premieres in Australia on Sunday, Jan. 18.
