GENESEO, N.Y. — Saturday marks ten years since SUNY Geneseo student athletes Kelsey Annese and Matthew were killed in a double murder suicide.
On Jan. 17, 2016, police were called to a home on Wadsworth Street in Geneseo at around 6 a.m. Police at the scene said they found the bodies of Annese’s ex-boyfriend, Colin Kingston, Annese, and Hutchinson.
According to police, Kingston went into Annese’s home and stabbed her and Hutchinson, and then stabbed himself. Police said they learned about the stabbing as Kingston called his dad saying he had harmed his girlfriend.
Hutchinson played for the Geneseo men’s hockey team, and was a firefighter/EMT for the Geneseo Fire Department. Annese, a Webster native, played for the Geneseo women’s basketball team.
On Saturday, the Geneseo Fire Department took to social media, remembering Annese and Hutchinson.
“Kelsey and Hutch will always be remembered for their hard work, leadership, and dedication to their teammates,” the department said in the post.
A few days after the stabbing, News10NBC visited the Geneseo campus as students reflected on the tragedy that took place.
News10NBC also spoke with Geneseo Fire Chief Andrew Chanler at the time, who said Hutchinson’s death was a bitter pill to swallow for him and the entire department.
“We lost a great person in an awful tragedy,” said Chanler.
During the men’s hockey game against Manhattanville Saturday afternoon, the Geneseo Fire Department’s color guard was there to honor Hutchinson.
