Cubs Hall of Fame — I’m working a little backwards today, but I had to get Jon Lester’s mini, impromptu speech out in front of you first this morning. If you missed it, you’ll want to check it out as soon as possible. He delivered some of the most sincere, dazzling, and impressive comments we’ve heard from a Cubs player in a long time. I really loved it. In the meantime, some news!
Last night, the Chicago Cubs announced three new members to the Cubs Hall of Fame. That list includes two players, Jon Lester and Jody Davis, plus announcer Vince Lloyd.
Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts announces Jon Lester, Jody Davis and broadcaster Vince Lloyd will be inducted into the Cubs Hall of Fame this year.

Jon Lester
We already gave Jon Lester a lot of love earlier, but here’s a little bonus.
The Chicago Cubs signed Jon Lester out of free agency ahead of the 2015 season. And almost immediately, he became the most significant free agent signing in franchise history. He still is.
During his six seasons in Chicago, Lester virtually missed NO STARTS (how incredible is that?), was a 2x All-Star, an NLCS MVP, and, of course, a World Series Champion. He also appeared in 12 postseason games with the Cubs, including the pivotal Game 7 in Cleveland.
Just look at this Cubs career:
2015: 32 starts, 3.34 ERA2016: 32 starts, 2.44 ERA2017: 32 starts, 4.33 ERA2018: 32 starts, 3.32 ERA2019: 31 starts, 4.46 ERA2020 (partial season): 12 starts, 5.16 ERA
Not one single pitcher in Major League Baseball made more starts than Jon Lester over that six-season stretch. And of the 46 pitchers who tossed at least 750 innings during those years, Lester’s 3.64 ERA ranks 18th. Again, that’s excluding the massive body of work in the playoffs, too.
Just an incredible competitor, a landmark free agent signing, and maybe the focal point of the Cubs transition out of Lovable Loser status. He is one of the greatest Cubs of all-time, and now he’ll be enshrined forever.

— Cubs Zone (@CubsZone) January 17, 2026Jody Davis
I’m going to pre-apologize if I miss any significant piece of Jody Davis lore, as he was finished with his big league career the year before I was born. With that said, his place in Cubs history is unmistakable.
The Cubs acquired Jody Davis from the Cardinals in the 1980 Rule 5 Draft (See! the Rule 5 Draft is important!), making his big league debut as the Cubs starting catcher in 1981.
Davis went on to play 7.5 seasons with the Cubs, smashing 122 homers with 503 RBI. He was a 2x All-Star (1984, 1986) and a Gold Glove winner. He also set the all-time MLB record for baserunners caught stealing in a single season (89) in 1986.
As the Cubs 27-year-old backstop, Davis slashed .389/.368/.833 in the 1984 postseason, with two doubles, two homers, and six RBI in five games.

Vince Llyod was a long-time radio and TV announcer for the Cubs, calling games for 38(!) from the 1950s-1980s while working alongside legends like Jack Brickhouse and Lou Boudreau.
Lloyd passed away at the age of 86 back in 2003.
