A deadly head-on crash in a southwest suburban intersection Friday afternoon prompted an hours-long closure of a road in the area as authorities investigate.
Around 1 p.m., Lemont police responded to a head-on crash involving two vehicles on Archer Avenue near the intersection with Oak Tree Lane, authorities said.
Authorities determined both drivers had sustained serious injuries in the crash upon their arrival at the scene. Both drivers were transported to local hospitals, authorities said.
One of the drivers died from their injuries at the hospital, authorities said. No additional information was provided regarding the condition of the other driver.
Archer Avenue will remain closed in the area for “an extended period” as investigators look into the crash, authorities said. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
