Pearl Jam's lead singer and guitarist wants your help finding a cure to a certain childhood disease. He even made a documentary about it.
And now, Netflix has picked up Matter of Time, the title of Eddie Vedder's new project that spotlights Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) and follows the iconic musician, 61, as he hosts a fundraising concert in Seattle to draw attention to the rare genetic skin condition and aid in the discovery of a cure, Deadline reports.
The film will debut on Netflix Feb. 9 after premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival last year and playing at festivals such as the Nashville Film Festival and the San Diego International Film Festival — where it won awards at each, Deadline also noted on Friday, Jan. 16.
View this post on Instagram“This film captures all angles of the EB Community experience,” said Eddie, per the media outlet. “From families and researchers, to volunteers and donors all coming together for an event that includes a big dose of music for good measure. Please join in and meet these incredible people. Their stories will remain with you.”
Eddie's wife Jill Vedder — who co-founded the EB Research Partnership (EBRP) nonprofit dedicating to funding research — added, “It has been a profound honor to work in service of the EB community for more than a decade. Matter of Time is a film that shows the power of a community all focused on the same dream.”
In 2023, Eddie performed two sold-out solo shows at Seattle’s Benaroya Hall with all proceeds going towards funding critical research, according to Deadline. The documentary will weave together these landmark performances with personal stories from researchers, doctors, funders, parents and young people living with EB.
Meanwhile, Eddie is planning his first solo tour since the summer of 2019. As SPIN reported, Vedder is heading to Japan this spring for the first time on his own. He hasn’t been to the region with Pearl Jam since 2003.
