Paralympian Amy Purdy is sharing how her perspective on resilience and strength has shifted over the years in her latest book.
The athlete and Dancing with the Stars alum, who lost her legs below knee the age at 19, shared in an announcement via People that her book 'Bounce Back' will reveal how she's navigated life for nearly the last three decades. “I realized that resilience isn’t about staying strong, it’s about having tools to lean on when you’re not,” the 46-year-old told the outlet. “I’m excited to finally share this book because people always ask me ‘Amy how do you stay strong? How do you keep moving forward?’ This book is my answer.”
Purdy whose legs were amputated 10 inches below the knee after she contracted bacterial meningitis, went on to compete in the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia, where she took home a bronze medal. She also took home multiple gold medals off the Olympics stage in the X Games and World Championships.
Following the olympics competed on DWTS, where she partnered with Derek Hough and finished in 2nd place. Purdy became a fan-favorite as she had multiple high scores and inspired the audience as she danced on prosthetic legs.
"There aren't any legs that are made for dancing, there's not cha-cha legs or salsa legs, or jive legs," she shared on a 2017 episode of OWN's Where Are They Now. "I used swimming feet because they had a point and they allowed me to point my toes and it made me grow more creatively and become more resilient than I ever could have imagined going into the show."
Fellow famed athlete Meryl Davis, who was partnered with Val Chmerkovskiy took home the mirrorball that year.
