Anaheim briefs: City’s Sunkist branch starts year with puzzle party, more events

Anaheim Public Library’s Sunkist Branch is hosting a puzzle party in honor of National Puzzle Month.

There will be puzzles, games and giveaways for children 18 and younger from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16.

    Then on Jan. 22, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., the branch will host a Gochugaru spice demonstration and recipe tasting. Register at the front desk to receive a take-home kit featuring a sample of Gochugaru and recipes. The program is for ages 13 and up.

    Library staff will offer the branch’s first bilingual storytime at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 29, featuring stories, songs, games and crafts in both English and Spanish geared toward all.

    Anaheim Children’s Festival participant invitation

    The 2026 Anaheim Children’s Festival is inviting local organizations to join in helping children and their families explore the world of art.

    This year art festival, which is free to the community, will be May 16 at Pearson Park. Organizations are invited to bring an art activity to share with attendees.

    The Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center is the umbrella organization presenting the festival, which is celebrating 35 years in Anaheim.

    Shred day offered by local realtor

    There is an opportunity for secure paper shredding and electronics recycling being offered to the community by local realtor Meghan Shigo on Feb. 28.

    Boxes of paper may be brought to shred from 9 a.m. to noon at 351 E. Center St., in Anaheim.  The truck is from Total-Shredding and will take on approximately 400 boxes worth of paper. There will also be bins to drop off electronics, courtesy of OC Conservation Corps. Electronics can include televisions, computer monitors, laptop computers, tablet devices, portable DVDs, LCD screens and more.

    New exhibits at the Muzeo with the new year

    The Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center in downtown Anaheim opened three new exhibits over the weekend.

    “Common Ground” in the main gallery is inviting local artists to create large-scale murals on the walls; “Questions of the Flesh: Revisited” features the work of Riley Pettitt; and “Both, Neither, and All of the Above” from Mexican-Iranian artist Michelle Emami looks at being part of multiple cultures.

    The Muzeo is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays at 241 S. Anaheim Blvd.

    Also, it is hosting an Anaheim Cemetery walking tour from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Jan. 24. Tickets are limited and should be reserved early at muzeo.org.

    Party like it’s 1920 to help the Family Justice Center

    A Roaring ‘20s Night of Hope & Hidden Doors of Possibility is coming to Anaheim on Feb. 7 to raise money for the Orange County Family Justice Center and Foundation.

    This will be a vintage speakeasy-inspired evening with the glamour and intrigue of the 1920s. There will be “password only” specialty cocktails, vintage photo ops, silent action and more. Dress to impress in Roaring ’20s attire.

    Theater season starts with musical

    Chance Theater opens its 2026 season with “Once.”

    It is a raw, heartfelt musical about two strangers whose chance meeting turns into music, connection, and the possibility of something more. The show will run on the Chance’s Cripe Stage at the Bette Aitken Theater Arts Center from Jan. 23 to March 1.

    Play golf to help Anaheim High athletes

    Anaheim High Athletics golf tournament and dinner fundraiser will be Feb. 16.

    The tournament at Western Hills Country Club will benefit Anaheim High School athletes and its facilities, fields, gym and aesthetics.

    Sponsorships are available, tee signs are available and donations for “goodie bags” are welcome. Supporters can golf or attend the dinner to support the efforts of the planning committee.

    Shop books to benefit the library

    The Friends of Anaheim Public Library will have a book sale on Jan. 16.

    Visit the Central Library, 500 W. Broadway, for the 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. book sale in the basement. Other items will also be available, such as jewelry, curios, knick-knacks, puzzles and more.

    Anaheim Police Department offers PACE program

    The Anaheim Police Department is currently seeking participants and is now accepting applications for its upcoming Public Awareness Through Citizen Education, or P.A.C.E., class.

    Students meet on Tuesday nights for a total of 14 weeks. Classes normally begin at 6 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. and meet at the Anaheim Police Department main headquarters.

    This is a serious time commitment of 14 weeks.

    Disposing of large bulky items

    Starting the new year with a cleanup? If you want to get rid of large items, such as couches, old appliances or electronics, the city of Anaheim provides residents with a free bulky item pickup service.

    You may dispose of up to 20 items, three times a year.  Make a list of items, call Republic Services at 714-238-3300 and schedule a pickup appointment.

    Place items for pickup no later than 7 a.m. on the scheduled collection day.
