Inexpensive Glass Screen Protector for the iPhone 17 Pro Max
buy from amazonThis past summer, my sons and I traveled to New Mexico and spent approximately two weeks backpacking in the mountains of the Philmont Scout Ranch. I carried my iPhone 16 Pro Max inside a Catalyst case, without a screen protector, within my Osprey Daylite Waist Pack. I took my phone out numerous times for pictures and put it back in the Waist Pack. Unfortunately, during the trip, an internal zipper pull left a few scratches on my phone’s screen. I was very disappointed with the screen’s damage, so when I upgraded to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, I decided to protect it. Luckily, as the iPhone 17 Pro Max scratchgate fiasco has raised concerns about screen/aluminum durability, I had already chosen to combine a screen protector with a phone case for optimal protection.
The UNBREAKcable Screen protector for iPhone 17 Pro Max arrived in a 3 5/8 inches by 6 7/8 inches tall by 5/8 inches thick retail package. The cover panel displayed the product name/logo in vibrant gold font upon a matte-black background. The rear panel provided a generic product name in gold font, followed by six product features in white font: tempered glass protection, impact-resistant, ultra-clear display, anti-fingerprint, hassle-free warranty. The midsection included EU/UK labels, manufacturer contact information, dual QR codes (one for iPhone 14 and later and another for iPhone 15 and later), product manufacturing labels, and a UPC barcode. I liked the contrast between the gold and white font against the black packaging. The Amazon Page listed the product for iPhone 17 Pro Max specifically (6.9 inch iPhone) and had other sizes available for other phones (6.3 inch iPhone 17 Pro, 6.5 inch iPhone 17 Air). I liked the promise of an easy-to-install template, a zero-bubble fit, 6ft drop testing, a clear display, a case-friendly design, and a smooth feel.
I opened the box and removed the internal components. I found a white cardboard box with three foam-wrapped, glass screen protectors (0.5-ounce, 2 7/8-inch-wide by 6 1/4-inch-tall), three individually wrapped wet wipe packets, a small microfiber cloth, three dust absorber sticker panels, a thin, plastic installation template, a 2 1/2-inch-wide by 1 1/4-inch-tall by 1/8 inch scraper, and a multipanel, accordion-style instruction manual. I removed my iPhone 17 Pro Max from the ESR Hybrid Magnetic Case. I cleaned the surface with the included wet wipe, allowed it to dry, used the included microfiber cloth, and then used the lint removal stickers. I aligned the plastic template, removed the thin plastic glass cover, and then placed the glass upon my iPhone 17 Pro Max’s screen. I pressed the top edge of the glass against my phone and ran my fingers along each edge down to the bottom edge.
I was pleased with the installation manual and the overall installation process. The manual provided a helpful visual and a multilingual, step-by-step written guide. Even though I liked the layout and level of description, some may desire more information. For those interested in a video demonstration, the Amazon page offers a helpful video walkthrough of the installation process as one of its selections. After I followed the step-by-step guide, I had a few bubbles left along the edges of my screen. I used the included removal tool to push the bubbles out from under the protector. I did not have any residual lint or debris under my panel. The alignment was off slightly, but not enough to make me redo the installation. When I reinserted my iPhone 17 Pro Max into the ESR case, I noticed that the lower edge was closer to the left side of the case than the right. I lifted the edge of the bottom corner with the pry tool and separated the protector until about 1/4 remained attached to the phone. I gently nudged the case over slightly and allowed it to readhere to my iPhone. The protector looked rather centered after the mild adjustment.
I loved the template guide and appreciated the easy installation process. After having the convenience of a template, I will never again choose to install a protector without a template/guide. I have used the glass over the last two weeks and have enjoyed its touch, feel, and visual clarity. After a gentle cleaning with Woosh spray and microfiber towel, the Unbreakcable Tempered glass had a near mirror sheen. I have placed the case/protector/phone into and out of my Nite-Ize XXL holster dozens of times daily and have enjoyed full protection. I have placed my screen-protected phone in and out of my Osprey Waist Pack and found that the zipper did not scratch the screen protector like my 16 Pro Max screen. I was pleased with the smooth surface, the mirror like finish, reduced fingerprint display, the smooth surface, and EDC durability after several bumps, scuffs, and small drops. I would happily recommend the screen protector to those looking for an inexpensive yet functional upgrade. You cannot go wrong with a sub $20 Amazon find with 87% 4* and 5* ratings.
