Ukiah, CA – Ukiah Unified School District proudly announced the December Students of the Month at a special ceremony held at Ukiah High School on Tuesday, January 6, 2025. Principals recognized 51 students from across the district’s 11 schools, honoring their academic excellence, leadership, and social-emotional growth before an audience of proud families and community members.
This month’s celebration also highlighted the district’s continued focus on attendance and engagement. Grace Hudson Language Academy earned the Best Attendance Trophy for October with a rate of 95.56 percent, while Pomolita Middle School took home the Most Improved Attendance Trophy, increasing their rate to 94.46 percent, a 3.3 percent improvement over last year.
“Each month, our Students of the Month show us the impact of consistent effort and positive choices,” said Superintendent Deb Kubin. “Their success reflects not only their own commitment, but the support of families, teachers, and school staff who help them grow every day. We’re proud to recognize these students and the example they set across our schools.”
Each month’s event honors students who embody Ukiah Unified’s core values of academic commitment, leadership, and social-emotional strength, as well as schools demonstrating strong and improving attendance rates—a key factor in lifelong learning success.
Here are the attendance rates for each Ukiah Unified school in October: Calpella Elementary: 93.38 percent Frank Zeek Elementary: 95.45 percent Grace Hudson Language Academy: 95.56 percent Nokomis Elementary: 93.96 percent Oak Manor Elementary: 91.99 percent Yokayo Elementary: 94.61 percent Ukiah Independent Study Academy: 91.57 percent Eagle Peak Middle School: 91.42 percent Pomolita Middle School: 94.46 percent Big Picture South Valley High: 82.46 percent Ukiah High School: 91.96 percent
Director of Student Services Jason Iverson hosted the event, inviting each school principal to present their honorees and share remarks from nominating teachers that highlighted each student’s character, leadership, and growth.
Each student received certificates and gifts from sponsors in recognition of their accomplishments. The event recording is available on the Ukiah Unified YouTube channel.
