USC QB Husan Longstreet transfers to LSU, will play for Lane Kiffin

Husan Longstreet, the former Corona Centennial star who spent one season at USC as its backup quarterback, is headed to LSU to play for Lane Kiffin.

Longstreet announced that he had signed with the Tigers in a social media post shared Wednesday afternoon after reportedly visiting LSU on Saturday.

Kiffin, a former USC assistant and head coach, drew the college football world’s attention when he made the controversial decision to leave Ole Miss to take a head coaching job with the Tigers. He’s now acquired three quarterbacks out of the transfer portal with two days remaining in the transfer period.

Three-star transfer Landen Clark chose to move to LSU after a season with Elon University and five-star transfer Sam Leavitt joins the Tigers from Arizona State.

Leavitt had one of the highest price tags out of all players in the portal and has an NIL value of $3.1 million, according to On3.com. He will likely be Longstreet’s biggest competition if a quarterback battle ensues.

Leavitt passed for 1,628 yards and 10 touchdowns with the Sun Devils as a sophomore and rushed for another 306 yards and five scores. Longstreet doesn’t have as much experience, but he has potential.

Longstreet was injured for parts of his senior season at Centennial, but still completed 66.1% of his passes (109 of 165) for 1,641 yards and 19 touchdowns and ran for 494 yards and six touchdowns.

The former five-star high school recruit was frequently the first player out during pregame warmups for USC this season. He appeared in four games and saw the most playing time against Missouri State and Georgia Southern.

The true freshman completed all nine of his passes against Missouri State for 69 yards and a touchdown and added 54 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He went completed 4 for 6 passes for 34 yards against Georgia Southern.

Once destined for Texas A&M, Longstreet made the choice to play for the Trojans, for whom he had wanted to play since he was 9 years old, in November 2024. USC welcomed the 6-foot gunslinger over fellow five-star Julian Lewis, whose commitment never came to fruition and who moved on to Colorado.

Longstreet said he went on FaceTime with Lincoln Riley after the news of his commitment had gone public, and that the USC head coach told him “it’s the most excited he’s been in a while.”

Last month before the Alamo Bowl, starting quarterback Jayden Maiava announced his intention to stay at USC for his redshirt senior season after leading the Big Ten with 3,711 passing yards. On Friday, Longstreet indicated he was looking at other options.

Had Longstreet stayed at USC, he would have likely seen similar playing time and further developed behind Maiava.

Now Longstreet has left via the transfer portal, leaving Riley with Sam Huard and incoming four-star Jonas Williams as Maiava’s backups.

If Riley is to seek someone else, he has little time to do it. The transfer portal closes Friday.
