90s Rock Band Announces First Album in 16 Years

After multiple years of lineup and record label changes, Forbidden is back.

The heavy metal rock band announced via Instagram on Wednesday that they have signed with record label BLK II BLK / Frontiers Music. Other artists signed with them include Biohazard, Firewind, Megadeath, Nanslaughter and many more metal bands.

Formed under the name Forbidden Evil in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1985, the American band became one of the most successful thrash bands, earning a loyal fanbase in the underground indie and rock music scene in the Bay Area. They debuted with their album Forbidden Evil in 1988, then followed it up with Twisted Into Form two years later. Both records have contributed to the success they have today.

Despite their success throughout the 1990s, they broke up in 1997, but reunited 10 years later in 2007. In 2010, they released their most recent studio album, Omega Wave, but then went on a hiatus again in 2012. They reformed again in 2023 and are now here to stay. Their current lineup includes Craig Locicero, Matt Camacho, Norman Skinner, Chris Kontos and Jeremy Von Epp.

"When Forbidden was 'reborn' in 2023, we knew we were going to write new music. That excited us. We also knew that we were in no rush to be signed or obligated to anything that didn’t feel ideal. Well… that situation has finally revealed itself," Forbidden wrote in their Instagram caption. "We are elated to announce that Forbidden has joined forces with one of our industry’s biggest champions of heavy music & our old friend, Mike Gitter at BLK II BLK / Frontiers!"

The band also revealed at the end of their statement that they are currently recording their sixth studio album, their first in 16 years.

According to Blabbermouth, the new album is currently being recorded at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California, with engineer/co-producer Zack Ohren, set to be released in mid-2026. It was reported in the same article that drummer Kontos laid down eight new songs for the album, and the band recorded a secret cover song. It was also reported that Forbidden began writing this album a couple of years ago, and they released their first song in 15 years, "Divided by Zero," this past June.

As of now, there is no additional information on the new record, such as its title, tracklist, or release date. Fans can stream their discography and their recent single on all streaming platforms.

"We’re older, wiser & learned from our collective pasts," Forbidden concluded in their statement. "Can’t wait to share it with everyone."
