CBS just released a look into the tribal council set for Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans!
Newly released photos from TV Insider, published on Wednesday, Jan. 14, offer fans a first look at the tribal council set for the landmark season. The design features recurring phoenix imagery, which is a symbol of rebirth and resilience.
The mythological bird was also associated with immortality by the ancient Egyptians, and widely interpreted as an allegory of resurrection and life after death.
"The Egyptian phoenix was said to be as large as an eagle, with brilliant scarlet and gold plumage and a melodious cry. Only one phoenix existed at any time, and it was very long-lived — no ancient authority gave it a life span of less than 500 years," says Brittanica. "As its end approached, the phoenix fashioned a nest of aromatic boughs and spices, set it on fire, and was consumed in the flames. From the pyre miraculously sprang a new phoenix."
TV Insider says the firebird motif represents the show's "evergreen presence in the cultural sphere" since its first season, Survivor: Borneo, premiered all the way back in 2000.

Season 50 will feature an all-returnee cast that includes three former winners, eleven players who’ve made it to the Final Tribal Council, and fan-favorites who’ve never won like Cirie Fields, Colby Donaldson, and Aubry Bracco.
For the landmark season, titled Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans, fans were able to vote on key elements of the game, including on whether there will be idols, whether fire making will remain, and whether the live finale and reunion show will return in Los Angeles. As always, the contestants will compete for a $1 million cash prize.
In a commercial break during the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, Jan. 11, Survivor host Jeff Probst revealed the first result of the fan vote, confirming the live reunion show will be making a comeback for the upcoming season and will film in Los Angeles in May.
Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans premieres Wednesday, Feb. 25 with a special three-hour episode at 8/7c on CBS.
