Little House on the Prairie Star Melissa Gilbert Cancels Fan Event After Husbands Arrest

Melissa Gilbert, Little House on the Prairie star and founder of Modern Prairie, has canceled her upcoming virtual Q&A following child abuse charges filed against her husband, Timothy Busfield. Fans were informed via email of the last-minute change.

The 61-year-old actress was scheduled to host a virtual “Ask Melissa Anything” Q&A for her lifestyle brand on Friday, January 16. On Wednesday, January 14, subscribers reportedly received a notice that the event had been canceled due to “an unexpected scheduling change.”

"We’re reaching out with an important update about Friday’s Modern Prairie event," the email read.

"Due to an unexpected scheduling change, Melissa will not be available, and the event has been canceled. We know many of you were looking forward to gathering together, and we truly appreciate your understanding as we respect Melissa’s need for privacy and space."

The brand reassured fans, adding, "We’ll share details about a rescheduled date as soon as we’re able. Thank you for continuing to show care, empathy, and support within our community.”

The cancellation comes amid serious legal allegations against Busfield, 68, who is known for his role as Danny Concannon on The West Wing.

Authorities in Albuquerque issued an arrest warrant for Busfield on January 9, accusing him of misconduct with 11-year-old twin boys. According to one of the minors, the alleged incidents started when he was 7 years old.

Busfield surrendered to authorities in New Mexico on Tuesday, January 13. Later that day, Bernalillo District Attorney Sam Bregman confirmed that Busfield had been formally charged with two counts of criminal contact with a minor under 13 and one count of child abuse.

The actor denied the allegations in a video obtained by TMZ, saying, "I did not do anything wrong. They're all lies and I did not do anything to those little boys and I'm gonna fight it. I'm gonna fight it with a great team, and I'm gonna be exonerated, I know I am, because this is all so wrong and all lies."

Gilbert has not made any public comments. Her spokesperson, Ame Van Iden, stressed that any statements circulating online, including AI-generated deepfakes, should not be considered authentic.

"Melissa Gilbert is not making public statements at this time," the statement said. "Any purported 'statements' circulating online — including AI-generated deepfakes of her 'breaking her silence' — should not be treated as coming from her."

"She is honoring the request of Tim’s lawyers not to speak publicly while the legal process unfolds," the statement continued.

"During this period, her focus is on supporting and caring for their very large family, as they navigate this moment. Melissa stands with and supports her husband and will address the public at an appropriate time. We ask that their privacy be respected.”
