After the Flood season 2: Release date and latest news

While the impending flood threat is still very much a feature of After the Flood as it returns to ITV1 and ITVX for season 2, this time Jo Marshall, who's now a certified detective, also has to deal with wildfires.

"There's a scene when she's on the moors, there are wildfires, and of course she can’t help but get involved," said lead Sophie Rundle of what's in store in the coming episodes.

"When everyone else tells her to run the other way, she runs toward the trouble, toward danger. That’s why we love her – fearless, reckless, a hero."

Those are the same moors where Jo also discovers a dead body.

"What unfolds is this spider web of conspiracy and lies, we bring new characters in, and it all has that climate activist undertone," she added.

"Something is going on within the community that she needs to unpick, and all is not as it seems."

But when can you watch it? And which cast members are joining Rundle? Read on for everything you need to know about After the Flood season 2.

Speaking about last season's big reveal – Mackie is a corrupt officer and a murderer, having killed season 1 victim Daniel Eden, and her husband Pat had also been "on the take" for years – Rundle said: "We see Jo trying to work out where she is in relation to Mackie and Pat [in season 2], and we see how she is coming to terms with everything she’s uncovered.

"On the surface, it seems like everything is fine, but we soon realise that she's playing the long game and is working to bring Mackie down and build a case against him.

"She’s still a dog with a bone, she’s not forgotten, and she's just gearing up for the next attack."
