Elvis Presley’s Graceland is a living museum to the King of Rock and Roll, yet even the person with unprecedented access to its most private corners was unaware of one hidden item that revealed a deeply human side of the entertainer.
In an exclusive Parade Magazine interview at Graceland’s entertainment complex, Angie Marchese, the home’s VP of Archives and Exhibits, revealed that after years of caring for Presley’s private upstairs quarters, she was stunned to learn of a personal item he left behind. Ironically, it was Presley's daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, who knew of, but didn't share, that the unexpected item remained
Marchese is tasked with maintaining the upstairs area of the home. She regularly cleans and ensures Presley's bedroom, office, dressing area, bathroom, and Lisa Marie's room are meticulously preserved.
However, even after years in this role, she was surprised when she learned of an item that remained after Presley's death, hidden in plain sight under his bed. It was a small but revealing reminder of Presley’s human side, tucked away where no one had noticed.

"We did the Elvis movie premiere here," Marchese began. "Lisa hosted a party at the mansion afterwards, kind of a backyard barbecue type feel."
"Austin [Butler] was here, Tom [Hanks], whoever was invited from the film. And at one point, Austin actually came and got me, and he goes, 'Lisa needs you.' I met her, and she asked for the key to upstairs. So I went and got it, and then she took Austin up there."
"Lisa, [her daughter] Riley Keough, and Austin went upstairs. And then later on, they came back and joined the party. And it was like, 'here's the key,' and that's all it was."

They were sitting there on Elvis' bed, and she reached under the bed and pulled out a pair of slippers."
"Now, it's part of my job to maintain the upstairs. I go up there all the time to make sure that everything's fine, there's nothing, you know, crazy going on, and clean up the sinks and clean the toilets."
"The bed's really low and the carpet's really high, and the comforter that's on the bed hits the floor. We don't vacuum the carpet because it is so fragile. So it's not like we pick it up and vacuum it and put it back down. And I never looked under the bed."
Marchese concluded, "So fast forward, about a month or two later, I had to go upstairs. I was pulling things for an exhibit in London. I'm sitting there on the floor, and I just flipped the bedspread, and lo and behold, there's a pair of blue slippers right under the bed, and they're still there."
"Discovering those and knowing the fact that she knew they were there was kind of a comfort thing for [Lisa]. Because where they're at, it's almost kind of like you can see Elvis rolling out of bed, and they're right there."
