NEW CAPITAL, Jan 12 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said Egypt and Ireland enjoy close relations, citing the historic visit paid by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to Dublin in December 2024.
Abdelatty made the remarks at a joint press conference that he held with his Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defense Helen McEntee on Monday.
At the beginning of the news conference, the top Egyptian diplomat welcomed his Irish counterpart during her first official visit to Egypt since taking her office.
The foreign minister said McEntee’s visit reflects the depth of Egyptian-Irish ties, noting that cooperation between the two countries saw a significant development at all levels, especially after President Sisi’s visit to Ireland.
Abdelatty added that his talks with the Irish foreign minister explored the possibility of implementing the important outcome of President Sisi’s visit to Dublin, as well as ways of strengthening bilateral ties based on shared principles and values.
The foreign minister stated Egypt highly values Ireland’s recognition of Palestine’s statehood and Palestinians’ rights, particularly their right to self-determination and the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Abdelatty noted that the talks also tackled ways of advancing Egyptian-Irish relations in the economic, trade and cultural fields, increasing trade exchange, narrowing the trade balance gap, and boosting Irish investments in Egypt. (MORE)
